Service & Spare Parts for Lohmann + Stolterfoht gearboxes
History of Lohmann + Stolterfoht
Founded in 1884 by Max Lohmann and Max Stolterfoht in Berlin. Around 1925 they started manufacturing reversing gearboxes for marine applications followed by industrial applications in 1930. During the second world war the company was almost completely destroyed, but they were able to rebuild and resume their work after the war had finished.
In 1955 they were taken over by Mannesmann AG and in 1962 the famous SPIROFLEX coupling was introduced.
The company was very succesfull, but from the year 2000 they faced a lot of takeovers and this caused the L+S legacy to be split up between a few companies. Nowadays this makes it very hard to find the right spare parts.
Rotalution has a database where we can find all parts with the different owners at this moment. We will assist you in the search, but will also indicate if there is need for an upgrade or design change.
There are also replica's of the Lohmann Stolterfoht gearboxes. For instance the Hangzou Advance Gearbox is an example were they first produced under licence for
No matter the tpe of gearbox, we can serve it and supply parts
Type indication:
There are many different types of gearboxes. The type reveals the setup of the shafts and the center distance between the input and output shaft. For instance this marine gearbox: the GVA800, a clear twin in, single out gearbox with an 800mm center distance between each input shaft to the output shaft. You can see the setup in the image below.
There are different setups for the Lohmann + Stolterfoht gearboxes,
The GW.. Series:
GWC:
The GWC reverse reduction gear has a primary stage, a reduction stage and a reverse stage. Input and output have the same rotational direction (i= 2 - 6 to 1 ).
GWD:
The GWD reverse reduction gear has no primary stage, but a reduction and a reverse stage, either one of the clutch shafts is driven directly. Input and output have opposite rotational direction (i= 2 - 4 to 1 ).
GWS:
The GWS reverse reduction gear has a primary stage, a reduction stage and a reverse stage. Input and output have the same rotational direction (i= 2 - 4 to 1 ).
GWH:
The GWH reverse reduction gear has a primary stage, a reduction stage and a reverse stage. Input and output have opposite rotational direction (i= 2 - 4 to 1 ).
GWL:
The GWL reduction gear without reverse stage functions for the rest according to the GWC model. Input and output have the same rotational direction (i= 2 - 6 to 1 ) and are in line.
GWK:
The GWK reduction gear has no reverse function and is of single stage design. Input and output have opposite rotational direction (i= 2 - 4 to 1 ).
Lohmann + Stolterfoht Navilus Gearbox
Very popular types were the Navilus GUS and GUP.
GUS:
Two multiple plate clutches, reversing stage, reduction stage, power take-off stage.
Input and output vertically offset. For required direction of propeller rotation, any input rotation sense can be chosen.
GUP:
One multiple plate clutch, reduction stage, Input and output vertically offset and turn in opposite direction, no power take off.
